Frequently asked questions

What you need to know before arriving, before submitting a talk, or before sponsoring.

Attendance

How much does it cost to attend?+
Nothing. BSides CDMX is free for attendees: it always has been and always will be. The event runs on sponsorships and volunteer work.
Do I need to register to attend?+
Yes. The venue has limited capacity and registering ahead secures your spot. It opens on Eventbrite in the weeks before the event; the announcement goes out on social.
Is the event open to the general public or only professionals?+
Open to everyone. There are deeply technical talks and introductory workshops alike.
Can I bring my laptop?+
Yes, and for the workshops it helps. There's WiFi at the venue. Respect the event rules and don't run unauthorized testing on the network.

Proposals (CFC)

How can I submit a talk or workshop proposal?+
Through the Call for Content, which opens months before the event. Proposals go through Sessionize. The CFC page has the selection criteria and a guide to each field.
Are speaker fees paid?+
No. BSides CDMX is a non-profit event. What we do offer: full event access, a YouTube recording, social media mentions and recognition on the site.
Can I present in English?+
Yes. We accept proposals in Spanish and English. The program is predominantly in Spanish, but there's room for talks in English.
How technical does the content need to be?+
Technical enough to teach something new: original research, tools you built, techniques with a demonstration. We don't accept generic "awareness" talks or commercial content.

Sponsorship

Why should I sponsor BSides CDMX?+
Because the technical profile you're hiring for is in the room: pentesters, analysts, researchers and advanced students, in a community that comes back the following year.
How does the sponsorship process work?+
The sponsors page lists every tier and its benefits. Contact us by email or Discord with the tier you're interested in and we'll send the contract.
Do you issue invoices?+
Yes. Ciberseguridad México A.C. issues invoices for all sponsorships. Published prices do not include VAT.

Community and platforms

Where can I connect with the community between editions?+
On Discord, especially during the event and the CTF. A WhatsApp community is coming soon; access will open once WhatsApp releases usernames, so phone numbers stay private.
When is the event held?+
Traditionally in July, in Mexico City. The exact date and venue are announced through our channels.
